Strategies for Social Impact
Harvard Kennedy School · Master's-level elective · 2022–present
Many organizations declare a goal of transformative impact on society. These include nonprofit and government organizations traditionally associated with social impact, and increasingly for-profit businesses as well. Some bring vast financial capital, relationships, and talent to bear on the problems they are trying to address. Yet many fall short of their ambitions.
This course asks what explains that gap between aspiration and reality. We study research on organizational strategy alongside practical tools and frameworks developed for impact-driven organizations, and we work through cases on a range of impact-first organizations, often with guests from the organizations themselves. The goal is to recognize patterns across organizations and to apply them, with confidence, to new and unfamiliar situations.

Harvard Kennedy School · Co-curricular program
Rethinking Progress is a co-curricular program guided by four questions: what progress should optimize for, how contemporary forces are reshaping its meaning, why competing visions of progress are so contested, and what a genuine economic paradigm shift would require. I co-organize the program with Professor Eliana La Ferrara.
